The training I offer is the first step toward becoming a CAPPA Certified Childbirth Educator (CCCE). The training is part of the Traditional (In-person) Course.
Your next steps toward certification, after completion of the workshop, will include:
Be a member of CAPPA (One year membership included with registration)
Enroll in CAPPA Academy in the Childbirth Educator program
Read the CAPPA Childbirth Educator training manual, provided to you at training, and the required books from the CAPPA required reading list.
Order, read, and complete all online content, including videos, from the Understanding Breastfeeding Book, Understanding Birth Book, and the Mother and Baby Care Book available in the CAPPA shop. Details/forms are provided within CAPPA Academy
Complete a half-hour of student teaching observation with a certified instructor
Observe two labors/births totaling at least 10 hours (NOTE: Contact the CAPPA office for information about provisional certification developed as a response to COVID restrictions.)
Create a resource list with information on local support for parents
Sign and agree to the following forms: Code of Conduct and Social Media Policy, Grievance Policy, Mission Statement, CAPPA Approach / Philosophy Statement, Vision Statement, and Scope of Practice
Pass the multiple choice exam and essays; An 85% passing grade is required
Complete the Scope of Practice Intensive Review and pass the Scope of Practice Quiz
Complete all requirements within two years
